Changes to MoT Tests - Starting now

The Standard Motor Club brings you new information about the proposed changes to the MoT Test Documentation and Scope. This information is supplied in good faith but this is not the VOSA site so I can not confirm it's accuracy.

16th October 2011

From this date, MOT certificates, Advisories and Failures will no longer be printed on bespoke coloured templates. Instead you will receive a black and white printout. Advisories will be printed on the "Pass" certificate.

1st January 2012

The scope of the Test will be widened to include all existing items, plus the following new items can be tested:

  • Oil Leaks
  • Engine and Gearbox Mountings
  • Driver's Seat Movement, fore and aft
  • Rear doors must open from the outside
  • Speedometer must be illuminated
  • Gas Detection for Leaks (LPG)
  • Tow Bar Electrics
  • Steering Lock
  • Battery Fixing and Wiring
  • All Steering Boots
  • Tyre cuts less than 25mm but down to cord will not fail - Cuts longer than 25m and chunks of tyre missing down to cord and under 25mm will fail.

As some MoT testers will not have been trained initially there is allowance for the above not to result in failures, until 1st April 2012, when all points will apply universally.

This information is not formally issued in the MoT Testers Manual yet. The current manual can be viewed from a link on the Front Page of this Website. I am not qualified to answer questions on its content!
