October 2008

Here is the preliminary programme for the Golden Anniversary Standard International Rally - to be held at the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester, Gloucestershire, on 26th - 28th June 2009.

Cirencester was one of the most important towns in Roman Britain and today is considered by many to be the Capital of the Cotswolds.

Assembly from Friday afternoon at the College.  Reasonably priced en-suite Bed and Breakfast accommodation is available on site.   The college is about 1 mile out of the town centre on the Tetbury Road.   An easy walk if the weather is fine, Cirencester town is well worth a visit.  Especially the Roman Museum.  For Tourist Information click here

Friday evening:  A 23 mile drive through the local area, this will include a visit to AV8 Restaurant, Kemble Airfield, where a pre booked buffet supper will be available.   Returning to the College before nightfall, where the Students Bar will be open until 11.00 pm.

Saturday:  Approx. 50 mile drive through the Cotswolds, the lunchtime halt will be in the village of Bourton on the Water.  Private parking a short distance from the Motor Museum has been arranged at the Royal British Legion Hall.  The Cotswold Motor Museum is well worth a visit and includes a 1947 Standard 8 in their collection.  For family members who may not share the same interest in motor cars, then the Model Village, Birdland or local shops are well worth a visit.  A variety of eating establishments are available depending on individual requirements.

The Grand Golden Anniversary Gala Dinner, (3 course silver service) will be held on Saturday evening at the college, in a private dining room with bar facilities.

Static Rally and display on the Sunday.  Concours d'elegance judging in 10 classes.  Members Spares sales and Regalia available.   A Starbucks Coffee Shop serving light refreshments is on site and will be open all day.
Picnicking behind cars is permitted but regrettably no dogs allowed on site.
The Student Bar will also be open at lunchtime for those wanting stronger beverages.

Camping. The nearest campsite is a Caravan Club Site less than a mile from the college.  (Restricted to members of the Caravan Club.)  A public site, Mayfield Park is two miles out of Cirencester. www.mayfieldpark.co.uk
