The organisers are pleased to
announce that Nick Black, youngest son of Sir John and Lady
Black, has accepted our invitation to the Golden Anniversary Rally. Sir
John was MD of the Standard Motor Company from 1934 to the mid 1950's. Nick will
at the rally that weekend and will present the prizes on Sunday
afternoon. Come along and meet him.

the rainy 1st Standard Rally in 1960 will be at event at Cirencester,
50 years on from this photo. How many other cars from the 1st ever
rally can we attract?

Here is the preliminary programme for the Golden
Anniversary Standard International Rally - to be held at
the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester, Gloucestershire, on
26th - 28th June 2009.
Cirencester was one of the most
important towns in Roman Britain and today is considered by many to
be the Capital of the Cotswolds.
Assembly from Friday afternoon at
the College. Reasonably priced en-suite Bed and Breakfast
accommodation is available on site. The college
is about 1 mile out of the town centre on the Tetbury Road.
An easy walk if the weather is fine, Cirencester town is well worth
a visit. Especially the Roman Museum. For Tourist

Friday evening:
A 23 mile drive through the local area, this will include a visit
to AV8 Restaurant, Kemble Airfield, where a pre booked buffet
supper will be available. Returning to the College
before nightfall, where the Students Bar will be open until 11.00
pm.
Saturday: Approx.
50 mile drive through the Cotswolds, the lunchtime halt will be in
the village of Bourton on the Water. Private parking a short
distance from the Motor Museum has been arranged at the Royal British Legion Hall. The Cotswold
Motor Museum is well worth a visit and includes a 1947
Standard 8 in their collection. For family members who may
not share the same interest in motor cars, then the Model Village,
Birdland or local shops are well worth a visit. A
variety of eating establishments are available depending on
individual requirements.
The Grand Golden Anniversary Gala
Dinner, (3 course silver service) will be held on Saturday
evening at the college, in a
private dining room with bar facilities.
Static Rally and display on the
Sunday. Concours d'elegance judging in 10 classes.
Members Spares sales and Regalia available. A Starbucks
Coffee Shop serving light refreshments is on site and will be open
all day.
Picnicking behind cars is permitted but regrettably
no dogs allowed on site.
The Student Bar will also be open at
lunchtime for those wanting stronger beverages.
Camping. The nearest campsite is a Caravan Club
Site less than a mile from the college. (Restricted to members
of the Caravan Club.) A public site, Mayfield Park is two
