ANNUAL
SUNDAY LUNCH
AT THE
ALBANY HOTEL, HEYWOOD, LANCS
SUNDAY, 14th DECEMBER, 2008
The Manchester Group are again organising a
Group Sunday Lunch in December as part of our social programme. The venue as
last year will be the Albany Hotel, Rochdale Road East, Heywood, near
Rochdale, Lancashire. Members who attended in 2007 were impressed with the
meal, prices and service so by popular request we are again repeating the
event at this venue. We shall have our own room and there is a free car park
at the hotel. As last year there will be a choice between the carvery course
and a three course meal.
All members of the Standard Motor Club
(including of course the Manchester and Wirral Group’s) and their families
and friends will be very welcome to attend this informal social gathering
(the more the better). We will meet at 12.30 for 1 pm at the hotel and this
will allow members to purchase drinks at the hotel bar if they so wish.
Members attending this social function will be responsible for settling
their account with the hotel before leaving. The hotel is easy to find from
the M60 and M62 motorways but anyone who would like directions should
request them by telephoning Bryan on (0161) 483 7121. Anyone requiring
overnight accommodation should contact the hotel direct as soon as possible (01706
369606). Please mention the Standard Motor Club.
It is important that we give the hotel a
firm indication of numbers who will attend. If you have not already booked
for this event please contact Bryan (0161 483 7121)
as soon as possible to indicate your requirements and in any case no later
than the 30th November, 2008. Any cancellations should also be
notified by this date.
This function promises to be a very
enjoyable one so please make a special effort to attend.

Devon and Cornwall group of the Standard Motor
Club
will
once again be holding their annual dinner at
The
Royal Standard,
Tavistock
on
Sunday 25th January 2009
12.30pm
for 1pm.
This
event was a great success last year, with
21 hungry mouths to feed and
we hope to improve on this, in 2009. We
have decided to make this an annual event.
All
Standard members and owners from all areas are
very welcome and
we can soon sign up those non-members who
come along!!

Group New Years Lunch
All Standard Motor Club members
and their families and friends are invited to the West Midlands
Group New Year's Lunch which is at the totally refurbished Becketts
Farm licensed Restaurant on the A435 at Wythall, near Solihull, one
mile from the M42, on Sunday Juan 25th 2009. The farm shop and car
park have been enlarged. We meet at 12.00non for 12.30. Come and
meet fellow members and exchange news.
We will have a 2 or 3 course
meal including if you wish, a farmhouse carvery.

Invitation to all Club Members to the
2009 Anglia Road Run
The Participants in
the 2008 Anglia Run
Announcing the 2009
Anglia Road Run. The dates are Friday May 1st to Monday May 4th .
There will be 3 nights in a sea front hotel at Clacton on Sea,
Essex. Visits to places of interest locally will be involved, and a
half day free to enjoy the beach, perhaps a sand castle
competition.
You are invited to
join us for the 11th Anglia Road Run and bookings are now taking
place. The hotel has its own bar and restaurant, and all rooms are
en suite. Double rooms are £67 per night for two sharing (inc
Breakfast) Single rooms are £37 (inc breakfast). A deposit of £30
is required and early booking (by end of November) is advised as
there are limited rooms available. Enquiries to Ian Leggett 01284

A full programme will be sent a month before the Run. It is a fun
weekend with the emphasis on using the cars, but in a relaxed way to
give time to see the area around. We have a loyal bunch who have
been on every run so we must be doing something right, come and join
us, meet some like minded people. Ground floor rooms if you have
disability problems.

Gordon Bennett Rally

Standards at
last year's event
The "Mercedes
Benz International Gordon Bennett Rally" is organised by
the Irish Veteran and Vintage Car Club (IVVCC) It is open
to cars manufactured prior to 31st December 1930. It
has been run every year since 1974, to commemorate the 1903
Gordon Bennett Rally that was held in Ireland.
A party of
Standards will be making the Annual pilgrimage to this event in
Ireland. If you would like to join in the rally with your
Standard, please contact Len Barr at rally2009@standardmotorclub.org.uk
or 01285 659329. Len will be organising Rally entry forms and
will advise on ferry crossings and accommodation.
