Bristol Group
Outing to Atwell Wilson Museum

Standard and Triumph visitors to the Atwell
Wilson Museum
The
end of July saw a gathering of Standards at the little-known Atwell -Wilson
Motoring Museum just outside Calne in Wiltshire. Lynda and I arrived fairly
early in the Flying 12 , complete with a broken starter, but we found that Bob
and Val Richardson were already there in their red TR4.
|
Soon
to arrive were Steve Smeltzer in the multi-million mile 1927 V4 Tourer.
Steve has been doing over 2000 miles
every month in this car this year
making it easily the most well used Standard in the Club ( If you
know differently, please write and tell me)
This
is a very informal sort of Museum and we were invited first to sample a
cup of coffee and biscuits whilst we waited for the rest of the Group to
turn up. We then were free to ander around their collection. Most of the
cars are road-worthy, including the Standard 9 that I have photographed
on the right. A lot of the cars are used for weddings and this
being the summer some of their cars were ready to do their duty.
One
such car was the Black Plymouth photographed below, more of this later

By
now the rest of our party had arrived.
- Mike
Winter and Ron Fishlock in the Standard Tilly
- Mike
Duke and Dave Osbourne in Mike's Postwar 14
- Paul
in his Big 9
- Non
member in a Jaguar 3.4
An
unusual thing then happened. A Bell Jet Ranger II Helicopter landed in
the Car Park. ( I know about these things - well at least if you put the
registration into Google it comes back with photos and more information
tha you need to know. No we don't have a member who has suddenly won the
lottery and decided to join us - but all will become
clear..................
By
this time the Wedding car had returned from the Church complete with the
Bride and the Groom. The Groom had arranged for the Helicopter to take
them to the Reception. Trouble was, she didn't seem to be too happy at
not being told! Anyway after some persuasion she agreed, the photos were
taken and they flew off for the rest of their memorable day |
The Wartime Tilly, below, will be the
subject of a separate feature on the Website and in the Classic Military Press
in the future.
