Bristol Open Doors

General View of the Club Cars at Bristol

Everyone attending the Bristol Open Doors Day had a thoroughly good day.  The weather stayed mostly fine and the public turned out in droves.

Our fourteen cars were all much admired and commented on.  They all looked very good with completed information sheets and matching rally plaques.  Mark La Turner took advantage of the expertise around him to fit the distributor cap that Tony Pounder had brought for him - to the fascination of the watching public, some of whom got quite involved.

The location was fantastic, with lovely views of the tall sailing ships and steam tug boats on the river and the splendid Bristol architecture.  The Bristol Dockyards were extremely interesting; there are Victorian workshops still in use although now converted from the original steam power.  These workshops were open to the public just for the day and shipwrights were hard at work shaping metal in the

blacksmith’s forges.  There was some beautiful craftsmanship on show including some hand built ‘Swallows and Amazons’ style wooden dinghies and gentlemens’ sailing boats.

The Bristol Clubs were invited to participate as well and four cars joined our display, although the public seemed to prefer the Standards.  We all took turns to man the display, answering questions and listening to reminiscences.  Some of the cars displayed had never been to a Standard event before, even though their owners had been in the club for years.  It was very nice to see their cars and have a chat.  Indeed as one of the members commented, the nicest part of the Standard Club is meeting the other members!

Bristol Council would very much like this to be a regular event, so please make a note in your diary for Saturday 8th September 2012!

Report and Photos by Beatrice Pounder

Here is an example of Members attending a Club event for the first time. I try to list on this site as many events as I know of, and we will definitely be very happy to see you all again. What about all those that still have not made the small effort required too attend - you may just enjoy yourself too!

Many thanks.
