"All Triumph Drive In" in Washington State Walt Fogle and his Standard Companion Dear Phil, Here are some pics from the latest event hosted by my local Triumph club; Tyee Triumph Club of Seattle. We share this event every third year with the Portland (Oregon) Triumph Owner's Association, and British Columbia (Canada) Triumph Registry. We chose to base the event in the town of Cle Elum in Eastern Washington state where the climate is hot and sunny with long stretches of open two-lane roads. A primary feature is the mighty Columbia River that flows to the Pacific Ocean. We held a 225 mile tour on Saturday of the three day weekend. Lunch was served at mid-day. We visited the Ginkgo National Forest; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ginkgo/Wanapum_State_Park; and the quaint high plains town of Waterville, WA. It was a lot of territory to cover in one day especially in little British cars. Ninety-seven cars attended. The tour groups were established by Triumph model (and one Standard Companion!) I led the "Special Triumphs" in my 1961 Standard Companion, the car I purchased from UK member Pete Foster. The TR series, Spitfires, Stags travelled in other groups. I've attached photos for the website or newsletter. Please let me know if you have any questions on them or on the event. The close up is of myself at the driver's door with my friend Mark Jones, a very talented paint and body man here in the Seattle area. All the best! Report by Walt Fogle, USA Hi Walt, Good to hear from the Pacific Northwest. Lynda and I have toured extensively in that area, Mount Hood and Mount St. Helens, plus Oakland and the Columbia River Basin. We even visited Waterville. Its a fantastic part of the world. Admittedly, we didn't do it in a Standard though! The Companion looks superb, so please keep flying the Flag! Phil Homer October 2011 |
