Drive It Day
2010 - Manchester

MANCHESTER STANDARD TRIUMPH GROUP
STANDARD MOTOR CLUB
REPORT
ON ‘DRIVE IT DAY’
25th APRIL 2010
BLAKEMERE CRAFT CENTRE, Nr NORTHWICH
| Drive it Day through
Cheshire attracted a range of Standards and Triumphs from both the Manchester
and Wirral clubs, including sports and saloons and some interesting other
classics. From two separate start points we made a timely rendezvous at
Knutsford, where local residents came out to see the long line of cars, then
onward to the Blakemore Craft Centre. The ‘tulip diagram’ route maps
provided on the day added some fun. We negotiated our way through attractive
villages, over canal bridges and cobbled stones, and then across the famous
iron bridge in historic Northwich.

Plenty of display space was made available at the Blakemere
Craft Centre, amongst the Edwardian Coach House and courtyards, and just in
time for lunch. We were unfortunately hit by a sudden and heavy rain storm that
penetrated some canvas hoods, however by mid afternoon we were back to
sunshine. Graham and Sally Hart brought along their Flyer, and also a recently
discovered and remarkably well kept Standard 8. Harry Ashetton-Smith brought
along one of striking Vignales, now complete again with a replacement rear
window after the last one had exploded. Wirral member George Curley brought his
splendid Standard 12 coupe along, however fellow member Bryn Heeley had to turn
back home with a broken wheel bearing on his Standard Big 9. My Big 9 ran
extremely well over the 70 mile return journey, although I had to resort to
some good old hand signals having lost the indicators to a short circuit.

Thanks to Alex and Lynne Robertson for drawing the route and
arranging such an excellent day. To Graham Hart for the cheery hats and
balloons provided. For the Bears Paw bacon sandwiches that got some of us
started that morning, and for the welcome tea and biscuits provided at Bryan
and Morwena Jones house for the others.
