Bristol Group's Museum Visit Now for something a little bit different:
Vanguard Diesel Van is a daily driver
Rather than sit in a pub trying to make a pint
last indefinitely, for our July meeting members of the Bristol area
visited a private classic car collection/museum near Bristol.
I have to admit that I did not expect to see much more than a few cars, but the reality was a complete surprise. We were led through buildings, outbuildings, sheds and containers, all containing the most amazing array of trucks, vans, cars and motorbikes ranging from 1910 to 1996.All were accompanied by an equally impressive range of memorabilia and tools etc. The collection included a Vanguard diesel van which the owner had been out in that day, and uses regularly as the load carrier it was designed to be. There were two more very rusty Vanguards resting in the undergrowth providing parts for those in need.
Most of the vehicles are roadworthy and used
regularly, rather than just sitting idle gathering dust, as is the case with
many private collections.
On leaving some of us headed for a local
hostelry for a meal and some liquid refreshment. Suitably refreshed I headed
for home, foolishly deciding to use the back roads which made for an
interesting drive behind 83 year old headlights.
My grateful thanks to Dave our host for the
evening, and to Ron Fishlock for arranging our visit.
Weather permitting, we plan on doing more runs
etc., instead of meeting in the usual pub. If you would like to join us,
please get in touch
