The Group Stand
took second place out of eighty-four Club Stands exhibiting at
the show and we received compliments from Stuart Holmes the
Show Organiser for all the effort that had been put into
organising the Stand. The theme for our Stand was "Back
to the Forties" and quite a number of our members
attended in 1940’s military uniforms and civilian attire. A
display of 1940’s memorabilia was presented by Bryan Jones
from his memorabilia collection and the whole Stand with all
the magnificent vehicles that were on display created much
interest from the general
Twenty eight classic cars
were on show each day out of which there were nine Standards,
nine Triumphs and the remainder in our Open Class category.
George Curlew was presented with a plaque from the Tatton
Organisers for the Best Standard Car in the show with his
magnificent post WW2 Flying 12 Drop head. The Manchester Group
also presented plaques on each day. On Saturday George Curley
won the award for the Best Car on the Stand with his Flying 12
Drop Head and Alex Robertson won the award for the Best
Standard or Triumph on the stand with his Triumph Roadster. On
the Sunday George Curlew again won the award for the Best Car
on the Stand and Trevor Walker won the award for the Best
Standard or Triumph with his lovely 1950’s apple green
Standard Super Ten Saloon.

The Group Organiser and members were
delighted to welcome three Standard enthusiasts from Malta who had
travelled to Manchester especially to see the Group Stand at the
Tatton Show – match that for enthusiasm !. Reg Cooper travelled all
the way from Newton Abbot in Devon in his lovely Standard Vanguard 1A
1952 to be with us, again wonderful dedication. It was nice also to
have the company of Mike Wilks over the weekend, Mike is a regular
supporter of the Manchester Group and his attendance and contribution
and hard work is much appreciated by all our members. We also much
appreciate the loan of a gazebo from our Parent Club – thank you.
Altogether we had a wonderful weekend with a major contribution
from the weather, a glorious two days. Free light refreshments were
provided by our Catering Manager, Morwena Jones and Jean Shuttleworth
our Group Secretary organised the voting for the awards. Graham Hart,
our Show Manager, together with Assistant Show Manager Alex Robertson
did a wonderful job in presenting the Stand with a truly magnificent
presentation of the cars on both days. Their hard work and enthusiasm
is much appreciated by the Group – thanks to everyone for promoting
the Standard marque in the North West.
