The
Standard Motor Club at the National Restoration Show

Kolor Shack crew
and restoration project
The emphasis at this show, at the
National Agricultural Centre at Stonleigh, is on Spares and
Restoration. So as well as a comprehensive Autojumble, the
participating clubs are invited to carry out restoration work on a
Club Car, live, on their stands. In keeping with this theme, the SMC
had a 1957 Standard 10 on our stand and a team of people to start
dismantling it. The car and all the dismantlers were supplied by
Kolor Shack, Car Restorers. Next to i the 10 was Peter Lockley's
Standard 8, which has been restored in the last year, to show the
public what the restored car will look like.
As this centrepiece provided much
interest from the general public, members who were manning the stand
were inundated with questions about the car and several new members
were recruited. Peter also delighted in pointing out the 2 unusual
features on these cars, first his Standard 8 has a bootlid and second,
the Standard 10 doesn't have a bootlid. In breaks from working on the
stand, all the helpers were able to scour the autojumble to try to
source parts for their own restorations.
All in all a highly successful Stand,
and our thanks must go to Kolor Shack for their help in providing the
car and the demolition team!
We look forward to seeing the car
again when the restoration is completed, I hope to be sent photos so
that I can show you the fruits of their labours.
