Devon
and Cornwall Group Standard Motor Club Annual Lunch

Flying
8 Saloon plus Ensign 16Hp at The "Royal Standard"
Chris and Brian would like to thank
everyone who attended the annual club Sunday lunch on 25th January
2009 at the Royal Standard Inn. We were expecting thirty three for
lunch and were delighted when everyone turned up despite the awful
weather forecast for the weekend!!
We were also flattered to see people
from as far away as Wales, Bristol, Cirencester and Somerset – or is
because they will travel anywhere for a cooked lunch!!
Not only did everyone make the effort
to attend but we had a lovely display of vintage and post vintage
Standards lined up in front of the Royal Standard Inn.
Thanks go to all those who brought
along their wonderful vehicles to what has become an annual event for
the Devon and Cornwall section. Peter and Lyn Hallam who came in their
1930’s Standard 16, Steve and Karen Lovegrove with their 1934
Standard 10, the whole of Colin Fry’s family in three 50’s
Standard 8’s and 1934 Standard 10, Peter and Perry Starbuck in their
1950’s 10 and a special thanks to Steve Smeltzer and his very
capable co-pilot Len Barr, for making the journey from Bristol in
Steve’s lovely 1920’s V4 Open tourer. It is certainly worth noting
that they did not raise the hood once, even in the changeable January
weather, proving that they are definitely not fair weather motorists!!
In fact we meet Steve and Len at
Moretonhampstead in the morning of the dinner and travelled together
across the moors to the venue. The weather was kind and we had a
pleasant run deciding just before Tavistock to take a shortcut down
lanes that would bring us out opposite the pub. Well that turned out
to be a bit of an adventure, as we encountered quite a bit of standing
water at times, making the shortcut a lot more interesting than was
planned. We hoped to get some good pictures of Steve splashing his way
through the water but he was just too quick!!
Thanks also go to those who decided
to make a weekend of it and join us for lunch, Bob and Val Richardson
and Dennis and Shelia Brown.
It was a lively group who sat down
for lunch, with lots of natter and quite a few photo’s doing the
rounds on projects and wannabee purchases. All in all a great success
and one we hope to repeat next year.
Thank you to everyone who attended
including Lynda and David Swallow our newest members who have recently
found a barn fresh 1937 Flying 10.
