The height of an
English Summer- from a Flying 8 Tourer
Darrell Cunningham represented the Club at this event to celebrate
the opening, in 1959 of the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu: His
report follows
Having finally managed to get a sandal on over his still swollen
left foot Darrell Cunningham our Publicity Officer set off in the rain
with Oliver Hannam Penfold in the 1939 Standard Flying eight Tourer
with the hood up.
Arriving at the Museum they were ushered into the main arena with
other classics
They waited and waited for the rain to stop. Finally it let up and
down came the hood to publicise the Club.
Shortly it started to rain and get very cold and miserable, so off
the two went to see the new TOPGEAR exhibiton. This proved very
amusing and worthwhile seeing.
After returning to STAN as the car is known they waited out the
rain again, finally at about 3 pm they had had enough so off they went
home soaked as the hood leaks at the front when being driven against
the rain.

We all recognise that view through your windscreen Darrell. I
think Darrell and Oliver should be given a great vote of thanks by
the membership for representing the Club on such an awful day.
