Flying 12
DHC goes on its holidays Part 4
Day 3: Meeting a relation of Reginald
Mausley
Nigel Maudsley meets
the Flying 12 DHC
To set the background to this story, we need to
go back a couple of weeks to the New Forest
Show. A gentleman arrived on the Club's Stand and announced
himself as Nigel Maudsley, grandson to Reginald Maudsley, founder of
The Standrd Motor Company. Obviously the interest of the members on
the Stand was aroused
as was the interest of Nigel himself. The folowing day, Nigel returned
with an amount of Company memorabilia.
Day 3
of our tour therefore became a trip to Lymington in the New Forest
to meet Nigel at his home. You can see him posed with the Standard
above. The outcome of these meetings will be copies of a number of
interesting photographs and other items that Nigel has
inherited from his own father.
Though
Nigel is too young to remember his grandfather, this is a useful
contact which will benefit us all by filling in some of the
backround to the Standard Motor Company. I hope to publish some of
Nigel's memorabilia in due course.
After Lymington, the Flying 12 took us via
Christchurch and Bournmouth to Poole and Sandybanks. Here we
caught the ferry to the "Isle" of purbeck and Swanage. Therefter the
route took us
via Dorchester XXXX and eventually arrived at Beer in
Dorset. Here we had arranged to meet friens for two nights at
the Dolphin Hotel
