Flying 12 DHC goes on its holidays - Introduction

This page marks two significant events:

1. Today, the Flying 12 DHC sets off on the first stage of a two-week tour of the South, South-west, Wales and the Midlands as our Summer (!) holiday. The intention was to take in four Standard events, starting with the 70th Anniversary of the Flying 8 at Beaulieu, followed by the Great Western Steam Show near Truro, then the 5 day Welsh Rally based at LLandridnod Wells, returning via the Stonleigh Show over the Bank Holiday Weekend. Unfortunately the Steam Rally is already washed out so we need a substitute event for the middle weekend. There will be a number of site trips too.

This holiday must be well over 1000 miles, easily the furthest the 71 year old car has ever been on one trip since it was rebuilt, so wish us luck and please wave, if you see us pass by. And lets have some sympathy if we come back on a Footman James Recovery Lorry!

2. We will be boring you with reports of our trip on a regular basis. This will be the first time I have tried to publish webpages whilst on the road. I have all the software necessary to bring you a normal service loaded on my laptop and will be able to publish new pages wherever we find Internet or WiFi access (many hotels seem to have it now) You can also mail me on: webmaster@standardmotorclub (only) whilst we are on the road.

If you are seeing this page, the plan is working, the mobile published pages will be identifiable by this pale pink background
