MANCHESTER
GROUP’S SUCCESS AT TATTON PARK

Part of the lineup
of Standards on Sunday
The Manchester and North West Group
has again achieved success by being awarded fourth place out of the 90
Club stands at the prestigious Tatton Park Classic Car Show and Giant
Autojumble that was held over the weekend of 31st
May and the 1st June, 2008. As well as the Group stand
netting this splendid placement two members were given awards for
their cars one of whom was Andrew Davis with his magnificent Big Nine
that won Best Pre WW2 saloon. The weather on the Saturday was fine and
sunny but Sunday produced rain for most of the day.
The turn-out on both days was superb
with 20 vehicles on Saturday and 22 on the Sunday. Sunday’s display
was exceptional with a line up of eleven 1950’s Eights and Tens. In
addition there was a 7 cwt Standard Pick Up and a 6 cwt Standard van
both in first class condition. Stuart Holmes the Tatton show organiser
said he had never seen so many Standard vehicles in one place before
and came specially to congratulate the Group on the display. Andrew
Davis’s Big Nine was a favourite with the visiting public as was the
Triumph Roadster and Triumph Renown both of which were in class one
condition. Graham Hart’s pre WW2 Flying Ten attracted much attention
and the remaining three Triumphs, all in excellent condition were
favourites with the Triumph enthusiasts. Out of the 22 exhibits on the
Sunday 15 were Standards, five were Triumphs and the remaining two in
the Open Class section were both pre WW2 rarities again in class one
condition. On the Saturday we were treated in having a Standard Atlas
in good running order on our Stand.
Graham Hart our newly appointed Show
Manager did a magnificent job and was expertly assisted by Alex
Robertson Assistant Show Manager and again newly appointed. Alex is
also the Manchester Group’s photographer and attends most of the
Group’s events. It was wonderful to welcome Mike Wilks as an
exhibitor with his rare 1963 Standard 7 cwt Pick Up. Mike also gave
much valuable assistance in erecting the Stand and dismantling it at
the end of the show. We now regard him as a Manchester Group member as
he frequently supports the Group with his presence and excellently
represents our Parent Club at many of our events – thank you Mike.
