Good
Variety of Standards at Sherborne Castle

First Outing for
the Raymond Mays VEight Tourer
The Sherborne Castle
Show took place over the weekend of July 19th and 20th, with a Club
Stand organised by Steve Smeltzer. Steve takes up the story:
The Bristol group
stand started on Saturday with Bob Richardson and myself erecting
the club gazebo in high winds-we managed it after some head
scratching, and fighting with the top which was trying to head for
Yeovil in the wind. After viewing our handiwork we found the door
was on the wrong side, but decided to leave it as it was.
It was a relief to
find the gazebo still in place on Sunday morning. A few last
minute adjustments were made before the cars started to arrive. We
had Colin Powells Australian bodied 1927 V4 tourer, Len Barrs 1935
Ten saloon, Dennis and Sheila Browns Flying12, Mike and Marlene
Dukes Flying12, Chris and Pam Goods Flying 8, Bob and Vals Avon 10
Tourer, the Kingstons Vanguard and Richard Bradleys 1955 Ten
saloon.
The show itself had
over 700 cars in attendance including some fine veterans with a
Maudsley among their number. (manufactured by Reginald Maudsleys
cousin). Also on show and for sale was the extremely rare Raymond
Mays V8 which was sold at auction earlier this year.
We spent a pleasant
day in the beautiful surroundings, much of the time in bright
sunshine. My thanks to all the car owners and all those who
helped dismantle the stand, in particular Bob Richardson who
also helped erect it on Saturday.
