| The
Display of the Standard Motor Club

Some of the team
maning the Standard stand: ( l to r) Brian Murrish, Steve Smeltzer,
Darrell Cunningham, Dennis nand Shelia Brown, Chris Bowden, Bob
Richardson, Lynda Homer and Richard Bradley.
We set up the club stand in our usual
spot in the draughty cowshed on Friday afternoon using the Standard
history display boards kindly loaned by Steve Lovegrove.
Our grateful thanks go to the afore
mentioned car owners, all of whom travelled from out of the area,
and made considerable effort to be there, and the large number of
members manning the stand including Brian Murrish and Chris Bowden
who travelled up from Devon on both days to stand in a cold draughty
cowshed.
Several new members were signed up,
with other prospective members collecting membership forms to
hopefully return at a later date.
Now its back to the annual thought of
"perhaps it will be warmer next year!"

Now come on Steve,
the sheds were much warmer than last year, the animal smells were less
and the place even had new coats of two-tone green paint! -

Would you
buy a used Standard from this man? (photo: Richard Bradley) |
Hello Phil,
It was nice to meet you and Lynda at
the Bristol Classic Car Show last weekend.
I would like to take this opportunity
to thank Steve, Bob, Val, Peter, Daryl and all of the other Standard
Motor Club members for making me feel very welcome over the weekend.
We enjoyed some nice meals and a few beers during the evenings as
well.
This was the first time that I
have displayed my car at a Standard Motor Club event and it was most
enjoyable. I was amazed by the interest shown in my 1955 Standard 10
and I seemed to be chatting to people all of the time about it. Quite
a few people owned one in their younger days.
I am now looking forward to meeting
you all again at the Standard
International Rally and possibly some other events this year.
The attached photograph (above) shows
me wearing the hat that my Wife, Carole, bought me to go with
the car. They always wore them in the 1950's adverts, but I draw the
line at smoking a pipe!
Best regards,
Richard Bradley
Thanks Richard,
We were only able to put
on a show thanks to the volunteers such as yourself who were prepared
to bring their Standard to the show. I am glad you enjoyed the
experience so much and hope that will encourage others to follow your
good example for future shows. If you would like to display your
car next year, please contact Steve Smeltzer. It does not need to be
in concours condition, indeed part completed restoration projects
often attract more interest.
