Report
from the Three Counties Showground

The Standard V4 at
Hanley Swan
Hi Phil,
Attached should be pictures taken during
my attendance at Malvern this weekend.
Having been anxiously watching the
weather forecast all week I left Bristol on Saturday morning in
bright warm sunshine. I headed for Cirencester first to pick up a
magneto from Len Barr. All was going to plan until my V4 ground to a
halt just outside Tetbury. I diagnosed fuel starvation and removed
the front seat to get to the fitted toolbox, I was shocked to
find it virtually empty and thought I must have left all the tools
at home. I was ready to call RAC and retrieved my phone from
my coat in the back of the car. On moving my coat I was
relieved to find a toolbox that I had put in before the cancelled
Coventry weekend. The carb jets were quickly cleaned out and off I
went again. On leaving Cirencester the problem returned while
driving on the A417.Working on a car on the side of a busy
dual carriageway, with traffic not even slowing down, is not something
I am in any hurry to repeat!
Carb jets again cleaned out, and no
further problems, meant I arrived at my accommodation by early
afternoon. I was staying at a riverside pub on the River Severn near
Tewkesbury. A pleasant afternoon was spent partaking of a few
Tribute ales. There is something very civilised about sitting by the
river with a pint watching the boats cruising past in the sunshine.
Suprisingly the afternoon was followed by an evening partaking
of a few Tribute ales. I must confess to being a touch wobbly by
closing time.
Sunday dawned with a covering of mist
over the river and surrounding area. Feeling a touch fragile I made
a leisurely start as I headed to Malvern. I stopped at the
picturesque village of Hanley Swan and photographed my car by the
duck pond. (see above) By the time I arrived at the showground
the sun was again shining. The weather had encouraged a fine
selection of classics to attend, although mine was the only Standard
which suprised me somewhat. There cannot be many shows with
twice as many Dorrettis as Standards attending! This was the best
Malvern show I have ever attended. I made a few useful
purchases in the autojumble including an old magazine
celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Standard Motor Company.
My journey home was fairly
uneventual with just one stop to clean out the carb jets. I visited
Lydney docks on the way and had a walk alongside the River Seven,
carrying my bonnet mascot to prevent it from disappearing.
Now I really must get round to
fitting that fuel filter that has been sitting on my bench for about 3
years.
