Get to know the Club's Committee

The Club is administered by a volunteer committee, democratically elected each year at the AGM. 

This page was updated on April 13th 2008 as a result of elections at the AGM of 2008 This page also features  links  to photos of some of the committee members cars, (press "back" on your browser to come back here.) and as you can see, between them, the committee run  a wide selection of Standards from all era's of the company's production. 

All of the team give freely of their time to make the running of the club the success that it is.

In order to get to know your committee better, here is some information about all 15 of them.

Chairman - Peter Lockley

 

Peter's first Standard was an 50's 8 but more recently he has restored a very rare  Vanguard Estate.  Most recently he has restored a TR - based Swallow Doretti. Peter lives in Long Itchington in Warwickshire and works as a Solicitor in nearby Leamington. His other consuming interest is Steam Railways, of which he has an encyclopedic knowledge.  

 

Secretary - Rachel Maxwell

 

Rachael has been the Secretary since  April 2004. She hails from Towcester in Northamptonshire and is the Navigator in a Standard Flying 12
 

Vice Chairman and Webmaster - Phil Homer

Phil, together with wife Lynda have been members for over 30 years. They currently run no less than five Standards dating from 1919 to 1956, though not all of them are on the road at any one time. Phil is a resting Project Director in the IT industry, and also edits these webpages.
 

Membership Secretary and Registrar - Tony Pingriff

 

Tony has a very active role in the club as he deals with all new memberships and renewals and keeps the records of all known Standards. In his spare time he runs an Avon Flying 16 and he  is restoring an early 30's Standard Big 9.


Tony lives in Meriden in the West Midlands and is a retired Manager in the Gas Industry.

Regalia Officer - Ian Leggett

Ian  has served on the committee in the past, thought that he had escaped, but is back by popular demand! 

Ian hails from Chedburgh in Suffolk and runs a Vanguard II. He manages Regalia Sales in the Club, which also includes memorabilia and accessories. 

 

 

Treasurer - Val Richardson

 

Val is the senior management half of the second  husband/wife team on the committee and lives in Frome in Somerset. She performs the vital role of  Treasurer admirably well by not allowing the committee to spend too much!  Bob and Val run a 1934 10 Avon Drophead Coupe  

 

 

Magazine Editor - Steve O'Hara

 

Steve is the Clubs other Train enthusiast and lives above Birmingham's New Street Station, so he can get a good view!  He took on editorship of the Club's  magazine,  during 2007. Steve  drives a 1935 Standard 9 and a Teignmouth
 

New Members Secretary - Roger Sims

 

Roger lives near Stroud in  Gloucestershire and is married with two young boys. He is a retired Naval Officer - now self employed as a Business Consultant. A club member for 6 years  and owner of 1935 Standard 9 Avon Sports Tourer.  When not rallying his Standard,  he likes Amateur Dramatics, sings with local mixed Choir (Bass)  He also owns a Campervan and travels extensively on the Continent during school holidays.

 

Member without Portfolio - Bob Richardson

 

Bob has  recently retired from the post of Magazine Editor, one of the most onerous of the committee tasks. Bob turns his hand to most things that need doing in the Club and together with wife Val, they are enthusiastic Rally organisers.

 

Member without Portfolio - Lynda Homer

 

Lynda is an Educational Consultant at the Science Learning Centre East of England. She will tackle almost any job on her Standard cars and enjoys driving them to rallies and events - and encourages other ladies to do likewise.

 

DVLA Representative - Dennis Brown

 

Dennis hails from Raglan in South Wales. An enthusiastic rally organiser, he travels long distances in his 1929 Selby Tourer, or his  superb  Flying 12 Saloon Dennis has taken on the valuable work of liaison with the DVLA
 

Spares Remanufacturing Co-ordinator - Paul Newsome

 

Paul Newsome hails from Rugby in Warwickshire and has a lifelong interest in Standard Cars. His 1925 Standard Charlecote is a regular attendee at Club events. Paul also drives a Triumph TR4

 

Member without Portfolio - John Maxwell

 

John Maxwell forms the one half of the Committee's three "husband and wife" teams, proving Standards are for all the family. He pilots both a Standard Flying 9 and a Flying 12
 

Spares Sourcing Co-ordinator - Brian Parkes

 

Brian is a long-term member of the club, and joined the committee in January 2006.  He runs a Post-war Standard 14 and is a virtual  ever-present at Standard Rallies and Roadruns. His encyclopaedic knowledge of the whole Flying Standard range has earned him the title of the "Flying Doctor"!

 

Publicity Officer - Darrell Cunningham

 

Darrell Cunningham is an active member and founder of the New Forest Group of the Standard Motor Club. He owns a prewar Flying 8 Tourer. Darrell was elected to the committee at the Annual General Meeting of The Standard Motor Club on 31st March 2008

The main role of the Publicity Officer is to promote the Club and the marque as a whole to the Classic Car Press
