Vanguard Pickup with Avro Vulvan
XH588
Who can identify this Vanguard Pickup> First, let me apologise for the quality of the photograph above which is much poorer than what you have come to expect on this Website. I thought the subject matter of sufficient importance to warrant its inclusion. The Vanguard is clearly a Phase II Pickup in RAF livery. It was taken in 1995 when the sole remaining Flying Vulcan was landed at Bruntingthorpe, where it was to be de-commissioned. It was met on the taxiway and guided to its resting place by this ex-RAF Vanguard. It still has an RAF registration though it is impossible to read. There seems too be 2 occupants as well as someone standing on the bed. Obviously the preserved Vanguard is likely still to survive. I wonder if any of our readers can identify it or its occupants. Maybe the Vanguard belongs to the Airfield or is known to someone there? Can you help? It would be good to get a better photo of the vehicle to publish here. Here is the Vulcan being lead by the Vanguard:
