Motor Products of India

Indian built version
of the Standard Pennant, called the Standard 10.
This section is dedicated to the
vehicles produced by Standard Motor Products in India. At first
Standards were imported, then built from Knocked Down Kits, but
increasingly incorporating more locally built components. When
Standard Triumph was merged into the Leyland corporation in 1963,
the Indian subsidiary seemed to be immune to the change and just
carried on under the Standard brand name, but started to design its
own variants for the local market. The Company outlived its UK
parent and was still producing cars and commercials well into the
1980s. An attempt to build an Indian version of the Rover SDI,
renamed the Standard 2000, using jigs and press tools imported from
the UK was unfortunately a flop and forced the closure of the
company.
