Another 1924  Standard Leamington

A short while ago I featured what both the owner and I  thought was the only surviving Standard Leamington. You can read about it here

OK, well here is the second Standard  Leamington!

"! hate to do it, but I am afraid that there is at least one other Standard Leamington. 

Firstly, the New Zealand car, this is the ex Mrs EHW Brown car, that resided in Hamilton, New Zealand, until the late 1990's.  Mr and Mrs Brown had acquired the car in 1952.  I believe that this car was then sold in 1999 to a Mrs Gerti Eirich-Wieland, in Germany.  (I believe that Mrs Eirich-Wieland was (or is) a member of the SMC.  (Perhaps you can check the Club's membership records? - She also owned a 1930 Avon)  I believe that a picture of Mrs Eirich-Wieland's car, may have been published in a copy of the Review several years ago?    Attached you will see 2 B/W photo's of the New Zealand car taken in 1962.

Then there were two!  There was another car that was restored by a Mr R Hamshaw of Lancashire, from a pile of bits, over a three year period in the early 1970's.  This car carried the UK registration number SG 9743.  (Attached a colour photo of this car taken in the mid 1970's at some Vintage Car Rally.)  This car was then sold to a Dr. W J Wegman, of Wertheim Main, Germany, in December 1975.   I have since lost contact with this car, but perhaps someone out there may be able to locate it. 

Now I have always believed that Mrs Gerti Eirich-Wieland acquired the ex-Mrs Brown, Leamington from New Zealand, but since SG 9743 was sold to Germany in 1975, perhaps she acquired this one and the Mrs Brown car never left New Zealand?  Perhaps you can enquire with the club membership records,   If Mrs Eirich-Wieland listed either a commission or engine numbers on her SMC membership application then I can probably confirm this point?

The correct radiator, (which is the same as the yellow car above) is fitted at that time. Note also that the NZ car has wing mounted sidelights rather than the scuttle mounted lights on the yellow car.

The Club's  records indeed do show that the last known whereabouts of  SG 9743  are indeed  with Mrs Eirich-Wieland in Germany, and therefore Mrs Brown's car  never did leave New Zealand.
