Archive Shot of a Standard "Pall Mall"

This photograph of a rare Standard has been sent to me recently. At first I believed it to be a circa 1926 Park Lane Saloon, but  with help from Len Barr this has now been revised to 1927 Pall Mall on the 12/24Hp V4 chassis. Unusually, when an archive photos arrives, this time I am this time given some information about the car in question

Pauline Richardson writes:

"I am currently writing a history of our village, Addington,  The house was Addington Park, near West Malling.  It was burned down after the war, following a period when it was used by pilots from West Malling Airfield as a rest centre.  Unfortunately, the accident happened when the owners, a trust, were attempting to bring it back into operation.

The house and estate was sold in 1923 - I believe, therefore, that the man is Alfred  Edward Ebdon who was a chauffeur to the couple who bought it, or even those who followed in 1927, rather than the original owners.

Mr. Ebdon's son is a retired, very skilled tool-maker, and I presume his father was also good with his hands. The father lived with his parents at the Lodge on the London Road entrance to the Park.  The chauffeur is standing slightly awkwardly, and his son thinks this is due to the fact that when he was working at Maidstone he was run over by one of the other chauffeurs, the accident smashed up his foot.

The probable owner of this particular car was Mr. Henry Gurney Aggs, who lived at Addington Park between 1927 and 1929. The previous owners had sold in 1926, so this seems the more likely owner.  Mr. Aggs was a London banker, who had previously lived near Dorking.  He died here aged in his sixties, and his widow sold the property in 1932 to a healing trust, which is still here and thriving.

We obviously don't know what happened to the car."
