Restoration
of an Avon 9Hp Special - Part 1

For those of you who
think that the supply of interesting cars in old barns has dried
up, well here is one to disprove that theory.
Member, and serial
Standard restorer Frank Williams of Big 9 fame now has a new
project to keep him occupied. Its a 1930 Standard Avon 9Hp Special
number 3 on the Long Wheel base chassis. Actually Frank's car came
from an old mill, not a barn, but I am sure that all of us will be
pleased to see his find.
The Club has already
helped in retaining the car's original registration number, as it
was not registered on the DVLA computer. More of you might be
interested in this valuable service that the Club's DVLA
representative, Dennis Brown, is able to provide. You can read
more about it here.
As you can see,
Frank has already made progress on (destructing) his car, back to
the bare chassis. The only way from here is up, Frank! We look
forward to seeing more reports on your progress. Frank declares
that his target deadline is the International Rally of 2011, lets
wish him luck!
The car has already
featured in the current (July) edition of Classic and Sports
Car" magazine, and the article is reproduced with kind
permission below. The magazine is in your newsagents now.
